We’re still on the brake theme this week. After determining at the June track days that our calipers needed a rebuild (sticking pistons) we started looking around for various brake caliper / rotor options for the 996. If we were going to be tearing the brakes all off then lets see what makes sense to put back on.
You can go all out and replace the whole system with a Brembo, StopTech or GT3 kit and that will certainly elminate any braking issues you have on the track. Or you can do what I like to do which is find a means to upgrade using parts from other Porsche models and / or something a little more under the radar that may turn out to be the best option of them all.
I talked to some people who raced the 996 in Grand-Am and in PCA Club Racing. Well prepared the 996 calipers where not a terribly weak point, nor was the rotor size.
