VW GTI Compression Ratio Calculator

Calculate static and trapped compression ratio, displacement, chamber
volume, and the effects of head milling or a spacer.

Units
Length

Engine Parameters
Cylinder Bore mm Cylinder Stroke mm
Connecting Rod Length mm Intake Close ABDC deg
Gasket Bore mm Gasket Thickness mm
Piston Clearance mm Top Ring Height mm
Cylinders Deck Height mm
Head Chamber Volume cc
Piston Dish Volume cc
Cylinder Volume cc Total Chamber Volume cc
Nominal Static CR :1 Nominal Trapped CR :1
Displacement cc Displacement CID
Change Compression Ratio
Milling Depth mm Cam Gear Pitch Diameter mm
Chord Depth 1 mm Chord Depth 2 mm
Spacer Thickness mm Spacer Bore mm
Chamber Volume Change cc New Chamber Volume cc
Resulting Static CR :1 Resulting Trapped CR :1
Cam Timing Error deg

Input notes
  1. Values may contain arithmetic expressions. For example,
    80.5 + Inch(0.020).
  2. Connecting-rod length and intake closing angle are used to calculate
    trapped compression ratio.
  3. Piston clearance and top-ring height calculate the volume above the
top ring and below the piston crown.
  4. Enter piston-dish volume as a negative number for a domed piston.
Use a negative deck-height value when the piston protrudes above the
    block deck.
  5. Spacer thickness is the change from the entered gasket/head position,
not necessarily the spacer’s full physical thickness.
